Four Legs duo give the British chippy a Spanish twist

The chef duo behind popular Finsbury Park food pub The Plimsoll will next month open an ‘Iberian fish bar’, Tollington’s, in a former chippy nearby.

Ed McIlroy and Jamie Allan, who first made their mark as Four Legs at the Compton Arms, are retaining the tiling, formica floors and fish fryers at the venue, which will have a walk-in bar at the front and a bookable restaurant at the rear.

As Ed explains, “Jamie and I have spent a lot of time in Spain with family based there and we just love the no-nonsense way of doing things. We want people to come in, have a drink, lean on a ledge and have a quick bite or stay for a while and enjoy some big plates around a table. There won’t be any frills, just good food and a place we want locals and visitors to eat, drink and have a good time. It’s as simple as that.”

The Tollington’s drinks menu covers beer, cider and wine including Spanish vermouth, with everything available by the glass. Ed and Jamie’s pub The Plimsoll wins a 5/5 rating for its “delicious, unfussy grub” in the 2024 Harden’s guide.
